Do I need a permit to camp in the backcountry?

It depends on the park, but generally yes. Garibaldi Provincial Park requires backcountry reservations year-round for all overnight stays — reservations open four months in advance at camping.bcparks.ca and fees apply. Many other popular BC Parks backcountry areas (Joffre Lakes, Elfin Lakes, Golden Ears) also require reservations. Always check the specific park’s BC Parks page before booking a trip. Plan ahead, camping reservations often start months before the date that you want to camp and campsites sell out fast!
