How do I choose a hike that’s right for me?
Match the trail’s difficulty rating, distance, and elevation gain to your current fitness and experience, not what you hope to work up to. Start with shorter, well-marked, low-elevation trails and build up gradually. Factor in season (snow line), drive/transit time to the trailhead, and daylight hours. If you are new to an area, sort trails by rating and start with popular, well-travelled routes.
