What is the difference between a day-use pass and a camping reservation?

A day-use pass is a free BC Parks pass required at a small number of high-traffic parks during peak season (most recently Joffre Lakes) to manage visitor numbers; it is not a reservation. A camping reservation is a paid, dated permit for a specific site or area and is required for overnight stays in the listed backcountry campgrounds.
