Will I see bears on Vancouver-area trails?

Black bears are common across the region and can occasionally show up on popular trails anywhere in the region, especially in berry season from July through October. Grizzly bears are very rare in the Lower Mainland but exist in some parts of the Fraser Valley and Sea-to-Sky regions. Make noise as you hike (clap, talk, sing), travel in groups where possible, and keep dogs leashed. Avoid dawn and dusk travel in dense berry patches.

Read about Bear Safety before heading out on a hike so you are prepared and know what to do if you encounter a bear.
