This is a story of timing and luck. As I waited for night to fall and the stars to emerge, I decided to nap after a long day on both the roads and trails. I set my alarm for midnight in anticipation for dark skies, but woke up by 11pm and it was sufficiently dark, so I took my camera an tripod out to shoot. After 45 minutes clouds began to roll in and by midnight, when I was supposed to wake up, the sky was covered in clouds. Clouds can be seen on the right hand side of this photo, a reminder of the luck I encountered that night.
