Towering 2,319 m above sea level, The Black Tusk is what remains of an extinct stratovolcano that was formed 1.3-1.1 million years ago. It is a member of the Canadian Cascade Arc, a chain of volcanic peaks formed at the Cascadia subduction zone in the past 35 million years.
