Black Tusk
Location: Garibaldi Provincial Park
Photo Date: August 2016
Description:
Taken from the summit of Black Tusk. Although the official trail ends well below the base of the tusk, it is well worth it to continue onward. The trail to the base of the tusk is clearly laid out, and easily completed with proper footwear. The scramble to the summit begins with a partially exposed section before closing into a chimney; be sure to keep your eyes open for marking tape as climbers have marked the safest route to the top.
This photo was taken on an overcast day and a thick layer of cloud obscured Garibaldi Lake. However it made for an even more magical view, as you break through the cloud to clear skies, and all that was visible were the tallest mountain peaks among a sea of white.
While the views from the top are spectacular, always be aware of safety first and if you are unsure, go with an experienced climber.
