Upper Fraser Valley

Located just east of Vancouver are several communities that are home to a range of hiking trails. The towns of Port Moody, Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Pitt Meadows, and Maple Ridge are situated along the northern shores of the Fraser River and are rapidly developing communities that have a wealth of untouched nature trails along their northern borders.

With over 135,000 acres of ecologically sensitive land, Golden Ears Provincial Park is one of the largest protected areas in southwestern British Columbia. Visitors to Golden Ears are treated to a wide range of outdoor activities including a variety of hiking trails around Alouette Lake and up into the backcountry.

The terrain through the Upper Fraser Valley region can vary from the low-lying flood lands of Widgeon Creek to the mountains that surround Buntzen Lake and overlook Indian Arm. This area is also home to Pitt Lake, the largest fresh water tidal lake in North America.

Buntzen Lake
Buntzen Lake is a recreational area maintained by BC Hydro yet full of forests, beaches, and a network of trails for hiking.

Gold Creek Falls
A short trail that ends at a waterfall in Golden Ears Provincial Park.

Hayward Lake
Located north of Mission, BC, Hayward Lake offers two hikes that meander along scenic trails maintained by BC Hydro.

Minnekhada Regional Park
A peaceful nature sanctuary, Minnekhada Regional Park is located near the Pitt - Addington Marsh Wildlife Management Area.

Pitt Wildlife Loop
The Pitt Wildlife Management Area is perfect for nature lovers and bird watchers as well as those looking for a nice easy walk along the dikes of Pitt Lake.

Rolley Lake
A popular day use and camping area, Rolley Lake is located northwest of the town of Mission.

Sendero Diez Vistas
The Diez Vistas trail is located east of Vancouver in Port Moody and offers 10 scenic views of Indian Arm, Mount Seymour, and the Buntzen Lake area.

Widgeon Falls
Combining a canoe trip with a hike to a series of waterfalls makes Widgeon Creek a unique day experience.
