When does the Whistler alpine area open for hiking? I read that there's still lots of snow at the higher elevations. Can we take the Whistler gondola and hike in the alpine if we're well prepared?

Hi @elaine87 Most of the snow has already melted at the top of Whistler and it's just some patches here and there.

The popular alpine trail to do is the High Note Trail which is the one that passes high above Cheakamus Lake. It can be hiked one-way by taking the chairlift to the peak and then the trails ends at the top of the gondola. There's also some trails over on the Blackcomb side that were difficult to access before the Peak To Peak. They're not too long but there's a nice lake and lots of great views. I think it's listed on Vancouver Trails as Blackcomb Meadows.
