Is it safe to rely on my cell phone in the mountains?

Not fully. Cell coverage is patchy to non-existent across much of the North Shore, Sea-to-Sky, and Fraser Valley backcountry, and phone batteries drain quickly in cold weather or when used as flashlights. Carry a dedicated headlamp, a paper map, and consider a satellite communicator (Garmin inReach, ZOLEO, SPOT) for any serious or remote outing. Keep your phone in airplane mode and warm inside a jacket pocket to preserve battery.
