Update August 19, 2024<\/strong> – Othello Tunnels is open until the end of the 2nd tunnel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After a massive atmospheric river event in 2021 caused significant damage to Othello Tunnels<\/a> in Coquihalla Canyon Park, the park has remained closed since.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

BC Parks has given an update and plans a 2-phased approach to re-opening the tunnels:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. August 19, 2024<\/strong> – Opening the trail until the end of the 2nd tunnel.
    <\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Summer 2025<\/strong> – Full opening of the entire Othello Tunnels route.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    The work required for a full opening is significant as the first bridge will be replaced and rocks and slope above the tunnels will need to be stabilized. The rise in the river level eroded part of the foundation of the first bridge and it will therefore need to be replaced before re-opening Othello Tunnels completely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
