This upcoming Sunday, May 12, 2013, is Mother’s Day and what better than spending quality time with mom and the family by taking them on a hike.

Mother’s Day is meant to be relaxing for everyone and therefore some of the suggested hikes below have several trail options of varying difficulty, are snow-free, and offer a nice scenic outing for the entire family.

Deer Lake – A scenic walk around the lake in central Burnaby. Afterwards, drive up Canada Way and into New Westminster and take mom to the River Market for food and a drink.

Lighthouse Park – A variety of forest hiking trails, or just walk to the viewpoint of the lighthouse. Afterwards, drive 15 minutes east along Marine Drive to the community of Horseshoe Bay where there are several places to take mom for lunch or coffee.

Pacific Spirit Park – A network of flat, walking trails on the west side of Vancouver where you can choose your own route. Afterwards, take mom for lunch or dinner at one of the many restaurants along West 4th.

Iona Beach – Located on the north side of the airport, the beach offers a scenic walk out towards Georgia Straight. Afterwards, drive back towards Richmond and head to Number 3 Road where there are plenty of great asian food places to eat… perhaps Dim Sum?

If mom doesn’t like any of these options, she might like a leisurely stroll along the Stanley Park Seawall or the West Vancouver Seawall.
