Long Weekend Hikes

Date: July 30, 2010

The forecast for the long weekend is looking great and what better way to spend a day hiking one of the local trails. Here are a few day hike options to enjoy:

The Chief - The most recognizable mountain in Squamish, the Chief offers a challenging hike with spectacular views of Howe Sound. After the hike, have dinner in Squamish before heading back to Vancouver.

Mount Gardner - Located on Bowen Island with views of Howe Sound and West Vancouver, the hike up Mount Gardner is both challenging and a good way to spend a day exploring Bowen Island.

Widgeon Creek Falls - Located in Pitt Meadows, the route to Widgeon Falls is a day trip that involves a couple of hours of canoeing and a short hike to a spectacular set of waterfalls. Contact Ayla Canoes to confirm prices and availability.

Transit Hike

Norvan Falls - Located in Lynn Headwaters Park in North Vancouver, the hike to Norvan Falls follows Lynn Creek through beautiful forests before reaching the narrow waterfall tumbling over the rocks above. From downtown Vancouver, take the Sea Bus across to North Vancouver and take bus #228 to Lynn Valley. You will need to get off the bus near where Lynn Valley Road intersects Dempsey Road.

Don't forget to take photos of your hikes and submit them to the Vancouver Trails Photo Contest.
